MY WINTER SKINCARE ROUTINE

Winters in New England can be harsh on our skin. With the dry air inside our homes and the freezing cold air outside, our skin is just begging for some moisture. Bring on all the serums and masks! Over the years I have tried so many skincare products because I'm somewhat of a product junkie. I'm a sucker for "erases fine lines" when in reality the only thing erasing fine lines is Botox and Filler. But that doesn't mean you need to run out and inject yourself. There are a lot of great products out there that have worked well for me over the years. As someone who worshipped the sun and tanning beds in her  younger years, I am now paying the price. Especially since I have pale, thin Irish and Swedish skin. If you take any advice from this post, don't worship the sun and use good skincare products.

Everyone's skin is different so I would always consult with your dermatologist or an aesthetician to get a good skincare routine for yourself. These are the products that work well for my skin. I have normal skin and I am trying to treat sun spots, fine lines and texture. I try to get a hydrafacial every couple months. If you have not had a hydrafacial they are amazing. I don't know if I will ever have a regular facial again. They're great to do before an event to as they leave your skin glowing!

Along with regular hydrafacials, here is my current winter skincare routine and other items that I like to use for masking.

These are all the products I consistently use on a regular basis along with masks and other favorites listed at the bottom of this post.

ZO Daily Power Defense-The Daily Power Defense is a powerful antioxidant serum designed to improve the signs of aging like lines, wrinkles, and dull skin

ZO Retinol-apidly improves the appearance of uneven skin tone for a brighter, clearer and smoother complexion. When I first started using this, I panicked because my skin got really dry and was flaking off and then I asked an aestetician and she said this is normal. It only happened the first week I used it and then my skin shed the layer it needed to shed and has been great ever since. This is a key product in your skincare routine.

ZO Skin Health PadsRemoves excess surface oil and pore-clogging debris. I use these every other morning.

Drunk Elephant Baby Skin Mask-a cult favorite but for a reason. It really does make your skin baby soft. I use this once a week. It stings a bit when it first goes on but your skin will be incredibly soft after

P150 Lotion- another cult favorite. I have used this for years and think this is one of the best products to help fade spots. I only use every other day.

Beautycounter C Serum - another must have in your skincare routine is a good Vitamin C serum. I love this one from Beautycounter

Vitamin EAn indispensable nutrient for collagen production, our 100% pure & natural vitamin E oil is designed to visibly improve the look of scars, stretch marks, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots & sun spots for moisturized & youthful skin.

Eye Cream - this is pricey but it lasts a long time. I love the applicator and it keeps my under eyes moisturized and helps with hooding of the eyes. Hello, 40's!

Vegamour Gummies - these Biotin gummies help restore hair growth. They also taste really good too. When I was diagnosed with my thyroid disease, my hair had noticeably started falling out and thinning. I've been taking these for 2 months now and am starting to see little baby hairs grow in around my hair line. I'll have to report back in a couple months but I will try anything for hair regrowth.

Revision Skin care face wash - ok, I have to admit. I was one of those people that thought what face washed you used wasn't really important because you washed it off so quickly and then I tried this face wash and I am now a believer that what face wash you use is important. I don't know if I will ever use anything else ever again. Revision, do not stop making this. I have noticed my skin has had more of a glow to it. I'm not breaking out anymore and the only thing that I changed was this face wash. I bought it in October and the I barely made a dent in the bottle. This will last me a long time!

Ordinary Buffet- why I love these products? The price and they actually work. This formula combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of aging at once.

FRIDAY FINDS CLOSET + HOME STAPLES EDITION

This weeks Friday Finds are a mix of classic staple items for your closet, make up bag and home. Pieces that can carry you from now into the warmer spring season. I personally love the Ilia sunscreen powder for this time of year as I'm not in the sun as much but want to keep my skin protected for days the sun is actually out. Quick and easy to throw on over your makeup! That white vase from the new Studio McGee for Target line is so pretty in person. I recently picked it up at Target and can't wait to fill it with flowers. It's only $25 but looks way more expensive! I spotted this sweater at Evereve the other day and it's such a great closet staple that could be worn for cooler nights in the Spring/Summer! The prettiest off the shoulder top paired with these new Mother jeans would be the perfect date night outfit.

Hope you enjoyed this weeks Friday Finds and I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

MY FAVORITE THINGS PARTY

This week on Instagram I have been sharing my Favorite Things and Giveaway to win these favorite things. You can see some of my favorite things I shared below. We have 3 more days to go with something exciting on the last day!

If you have never been to a Favorite Things Party, I’ll give you a little rundown of how they work. They’re so fun! It’s such a great way to share your favorite things, but also learn about other peoples’ favorite things!

Here’s how I host my Favorite Things Party:

Everybody brings 3 of the same gift. We do a price range of $20 but you could select whatever amount you think your guests would be comfortable with. When everyone arrives, they put their name on a piece of paper in a bowl, 3 times (for the 3 gifts you’re giving) and choose a number (this will be the order everyone will present their favorite thing)

When your number is called, you share what you brought and explain why it’s one your favorite thing. Then you draw 3 names to gift your favorite things to! So easy, and everybody goes home with 3 new favorite things! This party also inspires we ruined with new gift ideas to give that holiday season. We’ve had everything from Poo-Pouri to the candle that is what they burn at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. you could even do a funny or dirty favorite thing to mix it up.

Here are some of my Favorite Things I have shared so far this week. These items are above the normal $20 I would spend at my party but I wanted a way to give back as a Thank you for following along with me and I honestly love all of these things I shared. These would also make great Gifts!

DAY ONE

The Polished Jar dispensers, tray and bamboo brush. These dispensers are my favorite because they not only look beautiful in your kitchen or bath but they have so many customizable options available to neatly organize you’re whole home or business. These make a great gift set with the tray and bamboo brush.

DAY TWO

Cozy Earth Socks. I discovered this brand because of their incredibly soft bamboo bedding. Then I saw they had socks too and I had to have them. They are the softest. I love that they’re not super thick so I can easily wear with my boots and around the house. This giveaway is closed but you can still receive 45% of your order with code THESTYLENEST45

DAY THREE

This is a little luxury favorite of mine. It’s pricey but smells oh so good! One of my favorite perfumes Santal 33 teamed up with The Laundress to create a laundry scent.

DAY FOUR

These are 2 of my favorite makeup items. This is the mascara I have been using for over a year. I’ve never gone back to anything else. I love it because the mascara wraps tubes around your eyelashes giving you extra long lashes and no black smudging or flaming under your eyes! My other favorite beauty item is this Kosas air brow gel. Because of my thyroid disease, the outer edge of my eyebrows have thinned out over the years. I used to have to use a gel and color them in. This allows me to do all of that. Both of these products are also clean which is important to me. You will love both of them!

DAY FIVE

One of my favorite local shops to buy home goods and accessories is Abode Shoppe in Newburyport. The owner Gina is a doll to work with and her shop has the best stuff. This basket bowl and these linen napkins are so beautiful in person. If you’re local. Stop by to do some holiday shopping!

DAY SIX

This favorite thing hits my sweet tooth. These are 2 local companies that make the best coffee cake and caramels I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot! My Grandmas Coffee Cakes are a fav in my whole house. We love the cinnamon, cinnamon walnut and blueberry. If you’re heading to Christmas Brunch this would be a great cake to bring. I really wish these caramels weren’t at the checkout of our local grocery store because it makes it way to easy for me to grab them as I’m checking out and eat them all before I get home which is 1/2 mile away. I love their sea salt black lava but all of the other flavors are so good. You can get a variety pack here if you want to try them all out.

DAY SEVEN

Today’s Giveaway is a good one. I’ve been a huge Beautycounter fan since the company first started. I love what this company is trying to do in the beauty industry. There is very little regulation on beauty products and Beautycounter is very transparent in what is in their ingredients. A majority of skin problems stems from the chemicals that are in our products. I teamed up with my friend to give one lucky winner the lotus Beauty cleansing balm. I use this to wash the makeup off my face every evening with these cleansing clothes. On days that my face is really dry, I will use it as a balm overnight. I also included my favorite make up brush cleaner and cleansing mat. You could just use the itcosmetics make up cleaner on its own but I find that the cleansing mat helps to get them really clean.

Instructions to enter to win my Favorite Things Giveaways are listed on the posts on my feed. Continue to follow along for the next 3 days to see what other Favorite thing I will be giving away.

Good luck to everyone!

SEPHORA'S SPRING SALE EVENT

Sephora's Spring Sale is going on right now and it's a great time to stock up on your favorites. Sharing my favorite tried and true's because these are items that I personally love. You can read more about why I love them below.

My Sephora Picks

FACE: THIS MAKE UP FOREVER MIST AND SET IS MY GO TO. SPRAY IT ON AFTER YOU DO YOUR MAKEUP AND I NEVER HAVE TO TOUCH IT UP. I LOVE THAT BECAUSE I'M NOT REALLY A TOUCH UP PERSON. I GET THE TRAVEL SIZE.

A FRIEND INTRODUCED ME TO THIS LAURA MERCIER BRIGHTENING SETTING POWDER AND I USE IT AFTER I APPLY MY CONCEALER

HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE FOUNDATION. I TRY OTHERS AND ALWAYS GO BACK TO THIS ONE. I NEED MORE OF A FULLER COVERAGE AND THIS DOESN'T FEEL HEAVY OR MAKE ME BREAK OUT.

EYES: I HATE HAVING A MILLION EYE SHADOWS LAYING AROUND AND LIKE TO TRAVEL WITH JUST ONE PALETTE. I PREFER MATTE EYESHADOW AND THIS GIVES YOU PLENTY OF NEUTRAL OPTIONS.

BETTER THEN SEX MASCARA IS IN MY OPINION STILL THE BEST MASCARA OUT THERE.

I RECEIVED THIS HOURGLASS BROW SHAPER AS A SAMPLE AND I REALLY LIKE IT. I HAD TRIED A DIFFERENT BRAND THAT MADE MY BROWS ALL CRUNCHY AND LOOK FLAKY AFTER AWHILE AND YOU CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU HAVE ANYTHING ON WITH THIS ONE BUT HOLDS THEM IN PLACE.

LIPS: I'M NOT A BIG LIPSTICK GIRL SO THIS SUGAR LIP IS MY GO TO IN ALL SHADES

OUR NEVER ENDING WINTER HAS TAKEN A TOLL ON MY LIPS. THEY WERE CONSTANTLY CHAPPED UNTIL I FINALLY CAVED AND GOT THIS LIP MASK.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE LIP GLOSSES IS BOBBI BROWNS

SKIN: THIS WATERMELON MASK SELLS OUT FREQUENTLY AND THERE IS A REASON. IT MAKES YOUR SKIN FEEL SO SOFT!

I STARTED USING THE SUNDAY RILEY BRIGHTENING SERUM BECAUSE HS TANNING BED REGRET IS SHOWING ITS UGLY FACE AND IT'S NOT ONLY LIGHTWEIGHT IT'S BEEN BRIGHTENING MY SKIN TOO. I HEAR GREAT THINGS ABOUT ALL THEIR PRODUCTS SO I MAY TRY THIS LITTLE TRIO SET.

SO THIS MAGNETIC MASK ISN'T SOMETHING I'VE TRIED BUT I REALLY LIKE DR BRANDT PRODUCTS AND I'M SO INTRIGUED BY THIS. HAS ANYONE TRIED IT? I HAVE IT IN MY BASKET.

HAIR: I HAVEN'T TRIED THIS DRY SHAMPOO BUT I ALSO HAVE THIS IN MY CART BECAUSE I HEAR GREAT THINGS ABOUT IT AND IT'S SUPPOSED TO HELP CLEAN THE SCALP. I CURRENTLY USE OSCAR BLANDI'S DRY SHAMPOO POWDER BUT MAY HAVE TO ADD THIS INTO THE ROTATION TOO.

MAYBE IT'S MY RECENT BIRTHDAY THAT'S MAKING ME FEEL OLD BUT I'VE BEEN WANTING TO TRY THIS ANTI AGING HAIR SERUM. I'VE NOTICED MY HAIR ISN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE AND I DON'T NORMALLY DO HAIR MASKS OR DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENTS SO THIS MIGHT BE A START.

DYSON HAIR DRYER I HEAR IS A MUST HAVE AND A GREAT TIME TO SCORE IT ON SALE!

BODY: HANDS DOWN THE BEST SELF TANNER BUT MAKE SURE YOU GET THE MITT TOO

I RECENTLY PICKED THIS UP A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AND I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT THERE WAS A SUNSCREEN LIP GLOSS ATTACHED TO THE TOP. THAT MAY BE MY FAVORITE BECAUSE I'M ALWAYS FORGETTING SUNSCREEN ON MY LIPS AND IT'S STARTING TO SHOW. THIS OLD AGE THING IS FOR THE BIRDS!

My Favorite Beauty Products Right Now

I don't consider myself a beauty expert but I am a beauty product junkie. I've tried LOTS of products and have narrowed it down to some favorite go to's that I thought I'd share with you.

To give you a little overview of my skin: I have fair skin with blue undertones, light eyes and thin see thru skin on my eyelids which results in purple veiny eyelids and under eye circles. Not pretty! So if you have the opposite coloring, my opinions on these products may not apply to you. But if you're still curious, read on because I do have a great mascara recommendation!

Finding a good concealer is always a challenge for me. One of my BF's and I have been on a concealer mission and we've found a couple favorites. We've found a good drugstore and high end one we both love.  It's a splurge but we hear it lasts forever and we think it's worth it. I suggest finding it in store and having your color matched before buying. The Laura Mercier is thick and some say it's too cakey or dry for them but this has worked well for my dark circles and I haven't had problems with it being dry. Click on pictures to shop.

Mascara is an every day staple over here. I never leave the house without it, even if it's the only make up I wear that day. I've recently discovered this Too Faced one and its a new favorite. It's the only one I use. It sort of lives up to it's name too.

Beautycounters eye liner is my current go to. I've tried many other drugstore brands and they all end up below my eyes at the end of the day. This one stays put and has no bad ingredients in it. It also has a little blender tip on the other end for smoky eyes. Comes in 4 colors too.

Eyeshadow palettes are my favorite because you get multiple options in one place. Only negative is when you run out of your everyday go to. My favorites are the Smashbox palettes and trios. Their colors are well pigmented and last all day and the brush that comes with this palette is the perfect eyeshadow brush.

Blush- colors vary for each person and I change mine throughout the seasons depending on my tan. My go to is Nars orgasm because it has a shimmer to it that reflects light and gives you a little glow. I may or may not have bought this Physicians Formula blush because of the cute little design and ended up liking it a lot. It's made with argan oil which is known as liquid gold. I always think of it as a bonus if my makeup is helping my skin too!

Foundation - I have had a favorite foundation that I've used for a couple years now. Every time I try something new I always go back to it. Now I don't even mess with it. Make Up For ever foundation is hands down the best in my opinion. It stays on all day, gives a full coverage without the heavy feel and never feels oily. I've found a good drugstore brand that I like as well.

I like a bronzer without shimmer that I can also use as a contour powder as well. This Beautycounter one works perfect for both and lasts forever.

Lipstick- I'm not much of a lipstick person. I prefer lipgloss or Sugars lip balm. Do I wish I could pull off a red Scarlett Johanson lipstick? Sure, but I just feel funny so I never do it. Instead I opt for the neutral shades. Beautycounters lipsticks have been my go to because they don't bleed and are safe to use. Clearly I haven't fully cleaned up my makeup but something that I put on multiple times a day on my lips I'd rather use the safe stuff.

Finish it off with Make Up For Ever setting spray and you won't need to touch up all day! Seriously the best!!

If you're out shopping and try one of these out let me know if you love it as much as I do. I always love hearing everyone's favorite beauty products.

HOW TO CURE THE WINTER BLUES FOR YOUR NAILS

Wintertime wreaks havoc on my nails and hands. The dry skin, cracks and peeling just make me want to hide them in gloves all winter. I've been on a mission to find products that will actually work and I think I've finally found some good ones I wanted to share with you because they actually seem to be working.

1. I was reading great reviews about this deborah lippman cuticle remover and since I love the nail polish, I knew I had to give it a try. It's on the pricier side so I tested it in Sephora to see if it actually did the trick. Fine minutes later I went back and bought it because it's that good.

2. Crystal Nail files are great because you can wash them and they last for years. They're also gentle on brittle nails.

3. One of my friends recently shared with me that she uses argan oil on her nails. I use it for everything else but never thought to use it on my nails. I've been rubbing my favorite argan oil into my cuticles and nails every night before bed then on my hands as well. I love this one by Carefree Organics.

4. Yes, I buy vitamins because they look pretty. Same as my wine. But these actually do work, for my nails at least. I ran out of them and my nails started to get brittle so I ran back to the store to stock up and a couple weeks later they were back to normal.

5. Who doesn't love having the perfect manicure all the time? But it's not always realistic. That's why I love this naked nail polish by Zoya. Added benefit Zoya nail polishes are listed as one of the safer brands to use on your nails.

6. If I do manage to paint my nails I have to use this Essie gel setter as my top coat. It makes a manicure last a lot longer and helps brittle nails in the winter!

7. I have one of these Ever Skincare Light Beam Handcreams on my nightstand and one in my car. It's lightweight, has an SPF, lightens dark spots, exfoliates and hydrates! Everything you want all in one tube!

Friday Finds

This weeks finds:

As I was looking for inspiration for our outdoor space I saw these gorgeous outdoor porches and made me wish I had a screened in porch.

One of my favorite Bloggers Emily over at cupcakes & cashmere just announced her new clothing line which will be featured at nordstroms and shop bop. The sneak peeks look gorgeous and can't wait to see the whole line.

I haven't tried these but find them interesting. The reviews sound great and a good alternative to the not so safe laundry detergent. http://www.amazon.com/Eco-Nuts-Seen-Shark-Loads/dp/B0037G39IO

4. With our new puppy coming soon I've been trying to gear up. How cool is this for outside?! Pet Fountain

5.  I've been testing out a few self tanners and although the Tan Towel and Josie Marans tan oil have been my favorite so far I just received this and am excited to try it. I love the no streaking! It's gradual so it will take a couple days to build your tan.

Makeup Favorites

Makeup Favorites

Summer is almost here and today I'm sharing some of my favorite make up products that I'm loving right now. I tend to be more neutral and wear less make up in the summer so I love a good bronzer, mascara and lip gloss to just give me a little bit of a brighter look.

1. Laura Mercier Brightening Powder was introduced to me by one of my good friends and I love this as a setting powder to help your makeup stay put on hot days when you feel like it's going to melt right off your face. I mostly use under eyes and tzone.

2. Peter Roth Bronzer SPF I love a product that can do multiple things at once and this is a bronzer and SPF in one. I love this for days when you forget to put sunscreen on and don't want to smear it all over your makeup.

3. Josie Maran Mascara this is my new favorite mascara and it's safe too!

4. NARS lip pencil is another 2 in 1 product. I like this lip pencil because you can use it as just that and then apply your lipstick/gloss or use it as a lipstick as well. It also comes in a glossy finish as well.

5. Make Up FOrever Matte Foundation is a newer foundation I recently tried and loved. I need more of a full coverage but don't like the heavy feeling of foundation, especially in the summer time. This is perfect! It has a matte finish and goes on so well and stays put all day. I'm a huge fan of their foundations.

6. Beautycounter Lip Sheer in Twig I'm normally not one to wear lipstick. Lipgloss and my eos balm is my go to but once I tried this I loved it. It doesn't even look like I'm wearing lipstick but gives your lips a finished look. It's also free of toxic chemicals as well, which is important to me when I'm putting it on my lips multiple times a day. Win-win!

7. NARS Orgasm Blush Seriously who names these things? 95% chance it's a guy. But if it is and he created this color good for him because I think this color can be worn by anyone. Gives you a great pink-perk up for a summer glow.

8. Beautycounter Eye Shade Duo is a great neutral shade for summertime. This can be worn during the day or evening. Just add a little more of the darker shade in your creases for a more dramatic night time look. Again I love the 2 in 1 because if you're taking to the gym or throwing in your purse you only need one eye shadow and not 2.

I'd love to hear what some of your favorite makeup products are!

My Skincare Routine for Winter Months

I know Spring is only a couple days away but I'm still treating my skin like its winter. These products have kept my face hydrated and have been my go to's this season.

This is my all time favorite cream face wash. I'm a beauty junkie and love trying new products but I've been using this religiously for over a year now. It has a nice refreshing scent that isn't too overpowering. It doesn't strip your skin but still leaves it clean and its non-toxic!

The first time I heard of oils I automatically thought they would cause me to break out. Well, they happen to have the opposite effect. I use Beautycounter's  Lustro Oil 3 before I apply my moisturizer, 3 times a week. I now rotate it with Josie Maran's Argan Oil light. The Lustro oil has a ylang ylang and wild chamomile scent so it can also be used as a perfume. The Josie Maran does not have a scent. Both are friendly for our bodies which is a plus!

I have this bad habit of rubbing my eyes in the morning, pulling at my skin. So between my tanning bed teen years and my rubbing, I have wrinkles I don't like. I haven't found an eye cream that works miracles yet but I recently started using this MB one. I only use it every other day and at night because it's a little greasy. I notice my circles aren't as dark as they've been so I'm going to continue to use and see how it goes. This isn't like a glycolic peel, you leave this on.

This is a lightweight moisturizer that fights aging. I use this daily and have noticed a huge difference in my skin. It's not oily and absorbs quickly if you're in a rush to put on makeup. A little goes a long way!

The Multi-tasker: Skinny Coconut Oil

This is my favorite coconut oil because it doesn't have a strong scent. So I don't walk around smelling like a PiƱa Colada. You can order a set of 3 of these smaller sizes which I keep in my purse as well. I use this as a moisturizer, lip balm, eye make up remover, cuticle smoother, hand cream, swish in your mouth for whiter teeth (I'll post about this later) and the list goes on. While you're at it add a tablespoon to your coffee for more health benefits.  This is a solid but it melts as soon as it warms up. They also have a body butter as well which I haven't tried because I haven't needed it.

This night cream makes my skin so soft and it smells good too. A family owned business. They carry a whole line of safe products from dish soap to baby products. I use many of them and have enjoyed them all!

Moisturizing Face mask: Beautycounter's cleansing balm

This is a cleansing balm but also a dry skin saver. I use this as a mask when my skin feels really dehydrated. I'll put on at night and wake up with the softest skin ever. I use on my kids eczema patches as well.

I signed up for Honest Company's subscription and had to pick items to fill my order. I had no idea they carried lip balm. It comes in a trio pack too!  So of course I ordered that because beauty products are so much more fun then cleaning products. Chapped lips are everywhere in my house and I feel safe using this for the kids considering they practically eat it when applying it. It doesn't leave that nasty taste in your mouth either that other lip balms can do.

Would love to hear some of your favorite beauty products!
